Innovations in modern day cars have led to a significant decline in fatalities and injuries not just for the occupants of the cars involved in a crash, but also for the pedestrians. However, this video is a proof that the pedestrian safety systems that we see in modern cars aren’t foolproof and can be overridden by plain human stupidity.
The video shows a Volvo XC60 speeding up towards two confident people, who seemed to have volunteered during a safety system demonstration in the Dominican Republic. While a Volvo’s commercial would’ve had a happy ending with the car coming to an abrupt halt a few inches away from the pedestrians, this XC60 does the unthinkable by ramming into the two volunteers.
While the video’s comments section is full of criticism for Volvo’s Pedestrian Safety System, the uploader of the video explains that the driver of the XC60 had forgotten to activate the system before the test, which led to the accident. The uploader further stated that the two volunteers fortunately escaped the accident with only minor injuries. Check out the video below:
