Back in the early 90s, two-seater mid-engined sports cars were Italian, highly tuned and temperamental. Honda, though, broke the mould and refined what a supercar could be with the NSX. It was user-friendly, didn’t cost a small fortune to service and properly reliable, as one would expect.
It’s been 25 years since the inception of the NSX and truth be told, there has never been a mid-engined sports car quite like it. Sure, the Honda badge may not have had the same lustre as those of Ferrari and Lamborghini, but the NSX was technically loaded. It was the first production car to feature an all-aluminium monocoque body, after all. And like all fast Hondas, the spirit of the NSX rested in its heart. In this case, it was the high-revving, all-aluminium V6 engine with the infamous VTEC technology.
Turn the clocks back 25 years and its hard forget the fact that it was the greatest racer of all, Ayrton Senna, who was also involved in the initial testing of the NSX in Japan. The legendary Brazilian later worked with Honda’s engineers on the finalisation of the suspension and handling set-up.
With such an incredible pedigree, it’s no surprise that the NSX remains as one of the most sought-after sports car of all-time, 25 years after the birth of the original.
