Koenigsegg rewrote the supercar rulebook when it came out with the Regera earlier this year. What looks like yet another creation from the mad Swedes is actually a 1,500bhp supercar that makes the concept of gearbox pretty much redundant.
Yes, the Regera has what Koneigsegg calls Direct Drive which doesn’t require a gearbox or a clutch in the traditional sense. In fact, the power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a hydraulic coupling which eliminates half of the power loss usually associated with different kinds of gearbox like torque converter or CVT.
The 1,500bhp twin-turbo Regera, then, is a mind-bending exercise in performance motoring, pretty much like Koenisgegg’s other mad creation – the One:1 which is quite possibly the most extreme road car the world has ever seen. With an astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 1:1, the One:1 develops 1322bhp of power and weighs, you guessed it, 1322kg.
Turn up the speakers and go for the second half of the video to see both these extreme machines together in action.
