Imagine a stroll alongside a shed located in a French estate and finding a rotting Ferrari and uh, oh! About 100 more cars rusting in peace. Well, it is not an everyday sight where more than Rs 114 crore (11.8 million GBP) worth of precious metal is stashed under one roof hidden from the world. Is it?
The ‘small list’ of vehicles include a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider (only 37 were ever made), a 1956 Maserati A6G Gran Sport Frua and a Bugatti 57 Ventoux among others. Out of the 100 cars, 60 will be auctioned in February by Artcurial during the Retromobile Salon. The auctioneers claim the Ferrari will fetch up to €12 million (Rs 91.7 crore) whereas the Maserati might get them €1.2 million (Rs 9.17 crore). Artcurial claim that only 60 of these vehicles can still be salvaged.
This collection belongs to a French transport mogul named Roger Baillon, who started collecting these vehicles in the 1950s. Twenty years later he faced problems in his business and to raise some funds he sold about 50 cars but had no funds to restore the other 100 vehicles and o left them to rot in the garage.
