Five days to go for the India Bike Week and we hope the excitement levels are also reaching an all-time high. Boy! At least the BikeWale team is excited. All we can think about is Goa…er…IBW. We will be riding/driving down to Vagator and we promise to keep you updated about our trip. Our bags are packed and we are ready to leave! Our beds might resemble as if a hurricane just passed through the room, but after the previous two trips to IBW we are a bit wiser! Here's a quick list of things you MUST NOT forget for IBW.
First up is a camera. Why? Two reasons – Goa and a bevy of beautiful bikes (yeah and babes included). This is one of the gadgets you cannot do without at IBW. How else are you going to make your friends jealous? You will have loads and loads of pictures to show off for the awesome time you spent at IBW admiring some of the best-looking bikes and storing memories enough to last for a lifetime. If you are riding down to Vagator then capturing the scenery, the Goan countryside and the fun times will be a breeze. Oh but do remember to take your eyes off from behind the lens to enjoy the view sometimes.
Second essential is protective gear. Look up Goa on Google images and pages of serene beaches complete with sunbathing men and women, swaying palm trees and unending parties pop back at you but what they don’t tell you is that it is not all fun and waves, at least not when the weather in February is concerned. It will be hot, the event is being held in an open field so a lot of dust is going to be flying around and to protect yourself from this onslaught don’t forget to carry a good pair of sunglasses, an efficient cap, two tubes of sunscreen, socks to protect your feet, comfortable and loose clothing, proper riding gear in case you are riding down to Goa and closed footwear.
Third must-have on this trip is a power bank or external batteries for smartphones and other gadgets you might be carrying. Once again the march of technology has left us crippled without our smartphones. For the sake of ‘connectivity’ we would recommend you to come prepared for easily discharged phones thanks to the talking and the clicking of photographs (selfies) you will be doing for the two days. There will be no source of power to plugin unless you go back to your cars or hotels. Keep these babies close, very close. Discharged and conked off phones have known to bring many a grown man to their knees.
The fourth item on your list should be a handy pouch. Absolutely essential, if you ask us. This handy pouch of yours will help you face any obstacle on the way. Make sure it contains a tool kit for your bike or car, a basic first aid kit, medicines for allergies, nausea etc… a torch and a neat Swiss knife. You never know what you might encounter so it’s better to be prepared.
The fifth requisite:money especially as change. Plastic money, my dears does not work here. You are coming to the playground for bikers all over the country. There will be flea markets to go to, bike memorabilia to gather, spare parts for your beloved bikes, other merchandise, souvenirs to get back and cash will be needed for some other knick-knacks that might catch your fancy here at the event. So debit cards and credit cards will have to remain in your wallets here for most of the time, while paper money does the talking.
You can thank us in person when you meet us at the India Bike Week in Goa. See you there.
