“I don’t believe in the paranormal” confesses Alex Prindiville, founder of a London-based exotic car dealership, “but sometimes when I’m working in our London showroom late at night I feel a presence, a change in the atmospherics of the room.”
The story began after the dealership took delivery of the ex-Ayrton Senna Toleman-Hart Formula 1 car and put it on sale on behalf of its owners. At £1million, the vehicle is a rather expensive affair, but if we consider its proven background, its ludicrously high value seems worth an investment.
In fact, this is the car in which Ayrton Senna, during his rookie season in Formula One and his first time on the Monaco street circuit, so very nearly won the 1984 Grand Prix in dismal conditions, despite starting 13th on the grid. For the Monaco Grand Prix in 1984 the rain was so heavy that the street circuit had more in common with a water park than a race track. And while the Toleman-Hart was a good race car, there was no getting away from the fact that it was up against formidable opposition including McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus and Williams.
Considered no less than an iconic piece of Senna’s Formula One heritage, the Toleman-Hart Formula 1 racer is now resting in London, dressed in the livery from Senna’s unbelievable Monaco drive.
