The Independence day movie was the first thing I thought about when I saw the pictures of the Chevrolet FNR Concept. Futuristic is the right word to use for this concept. The FNR Concept is an autonomous electric vehicle designed in Shanghai by the company’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC).
I really want to know what these engineers were thinking when they were designing this on the Autodesk. I really want to know their thought process because the FNR looks just incredible. The dual swing dragonfly doors remind me of the Decepticons from the last Transformer movie. The overall body structure is mostly a glass capsule but is very aerodynamic. This concept car has crystal laser headlights and taillights and also magnetic hubless wheel electric motors.
GM says with the FNR concept, they wanted to showcase the future of mobility. But basically what they have done is they have stunned the German manufacturers with this out-of-the world design. Interestingly, you can’t start the car without it recognising your eye’s iris. The car also gets a roof mounted sensor and radars that will help you determine the best route to your destination. It also has a gesture control system, but our advice would be to manually feel the car.
While for me, it’s a perfect example of a bedroom poster car, for Chevrolet, the FNR could take them to all new heights when it comes to innovation and technology. I won’t be surprised if the next alien flick by Steven Spielberg will feature this car because I don’t think he will be able to find another car that will suit the film’s poster.
