When just 32 cars bearing the four rings found homes in the UK in 1965, it would have seemed improbable that as much as two million more vehicles would follow, but this major milestone has been achieved by Audi UK almost 50 years later.
Audi is celebrating sales of two millions cars in the UK. Interestingly, the brand’s first ever car sold to a UK customer was internally codenamed the F103 and publicly known simply as ‘The Audi’. What’s even more interesting is that the two millionth car sold was the A3 Sportback e-tron, Audi’s first ever plug-in hybrid model.
In the last 50 years, Audi has shipped some pretty incredible cars to the UK. Cars ranging from the insane Group B rally derived Quattros to the low slung, Porsche-baiting R8 supercar. While we do admire the performance capability of the R8 that is also sold here in India, it’s the Quattro – the old charmer of the lot that gets the attention of most enthusiasts including us.
