Yes! You read it right. Next time if you plan to text your friend using your mobile phone while driving, make sure you think twice before you do that. You may soon be penalised for it and this time there will be no time to put away the gadget. American technology company ComSonics has developed a radar gun that cops could use to find out if people are texting while driving.
Thinking how this works? Well, the radar gun would be able to determine if a driver is texting behind the wheel because text messages give out a different frequency than other uses of the cell phone. The company says that this equipment is very close to production, but before they could use it, it needs to be approved by the government. Also, there is a small catch. In case of heavy traffic, cops will find it difficult to determine whose phone was being used. This means, the co-passengers can also use a mobile phone, so how will they determine who is texting, may be they will stop cars with only drivers.
For now, this radar gun will be only used in America and possibly, might take ages to reach Indian shores. I say this because, the government enforcement agencies in our country have been shying away from using technologies in their day to day activities, due to the cost involved in procuring and maintaining these products. But in a country like India, where using phones while driving is banned, many drivers still use it, this tool could be useful.
