So you thought the Kawasaki Ninja H2R was intimidating? Wait till you lay your eyes on this 334 horsepower pure monstrosity of a motorcycle from Australia, called PGM V8.
While the affinity between Australians and V8 engines is well known, no one expected it to extend to two wheels. However for these blokes from PGM, plonking a V8 engine into a steel trellis frame seems like the most natural thing to do.
Brainchild of former Yamaha superbike race engineer Paul Maloney, the PGM V8 is powered by a 2.0-litre V8 engine, which was created by putting together two inline four engines from 2006-2008 model YZF-R1s. The engine uses standard R1 heads and pistons and a flat-plane crankshaft which is mated to a six-speed gearbox, also borrowed from the R1.
Development of the motorcycle started in 2008, and the first prototype of the engine was ready by 2009. However, developing a frame capable of keeping the power under a leash took a bit longer. The end result is a lethal looking chrome-molybdenum trellis frame with a CNC machined aluminium rear subframe, which does justice to the powerhouse.
