There are a lot of things which money can buy and there are some things which a lot of money can buy. Case in point being a man who paid a staggering USD 52 million (Rs 317 Cr) for a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO racer, in a private transaction.
Its exclusivity is highlighted by the fact that only 39 of these cars were ever produced between 1962-1964. The credit for which goes to Giotto Bizzarrini, (chief engineer at Ferrari during the 1950s) and Carrozzeria Scaglietti (an Italian automobile design and coach building company active in the 1950s).
With this transaction another Ferrari 250 GTO has claimed the title of world's most expensive car. A record previously held by a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO last year. It sold for USD35 million.
Well, looking at the amount the unidentified buyer has splurged on his purchase, there are a lot of things that he could have bought. Here’s a list:
- A luxurious house in each state of India.
- 12,500+ of India’s best small car, read Tata Nano.
- An island and that too in the scenic locales of Maldives.
- 26,000 iPhone 5.
- A private jet to island hop.
This expensive list is enough to tell you how much the buyer must love his cars or for that matter the Ferrari 250 GTO to have loosened his purse strings to this extent.
