- 13,088 cars sold in the domestic market
- 1,014 units exported
- 23 per cent growth year-on-year for H1 2018
For the third consecutive month, Toyota has registered car sales over 13,000 units in a month and this, coincidentally, is the third month after the launch of their new family sedan, the Yaris. Positioned as the premium band of the C-segment sedan, the Yaris has generated quite a bit of traction in the Indian market.
With the Innova Crysta and the Toyota Fortuner, the best-sellers in the their respective segments, having settled down to a steady 6,000 and 1,900 units a month respectively, Toyota has their star products doubling up as cash cows. Although the Yaris has started off slowly, it will gain further traction gradually in that typical understated Toyota manner.
The Etios twins of the sedan and the Liva hatchback have also been performing consistently thanks to the commercial market which also contributes to a good share of sales of the Innova as well as the Corolla. Overall, Toyota has registered a 23 per cent growth for its numbers for the first half of the 2018 as compared to the numbers in 2017. The year-on-year comparison for the month of June would, however, be invalid as Toyota had deferred a lot of its dispatches to save their dealers from the repercussions of the GST switch.
