Yamaha is a household name around the world, but not for its prowess in four wheelers. This might very well change in the next couple of years if the Japanese company gets a positive response for this Sport Ride Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The concept is a small two-seater sports car, which intends to recreate the joy of riding motorcycles on four wheels. With the tiny dimension of 3900mm length, 1,720mm width and 1,170 height along with a high-tech tubular frame, the car weighs just 750kg.
The design is reminiscent of a standard performance car with the ground hugging stance. The distinctive LED headlamps are similar to the ones used on the Yamaha YZF-R1. The rear design has a centrally mounted exhaust, diffuser and tons of LEDs. The interior uses combination of leather and carbon fibre, also the instrument cluster is from a motorcycle.
The Sports Ride Concept is made to be a mid-engine car, though the company has not disclosed any details of the drivetrain powering this one. Yamaha is known for making high performance engines and we won’t be surprised to see an exciting motor underneath, if it ever goes into production.
