Maruti Suzuki’s popular hatchback the Swift crossed the 5 million worldwide sales mark earlier this month, 11 years and 5 months since its inception in 2004. The Swift was launched as a world strategic model in November 2004 and it brought innovative changes to the Japanese manufacturer’s car-making technique.
It earned high appraisal for its sporty, stylish, and fun to drive character and winning several awards worldwide and is currently being produced in seven countries and is being sold in more than 140 countries.
The Swift’s sales in India accounts for 54 per cent of the overall 5 million global sales, proving just how popular the car is with Indian buyers. Maruti also kept attracting more customers by the addition of the 1.3 Fiat-sourced diesel engine and a sedan version in the form of the Dzire. Even today, 430,000 units of the Swift are sold annually which is 30 per cent of Maruti’s overall sales in India. The Swift is still going strong and is showing no signs of slowing down!
