Mercedes-Benz India has launched its fourth star this year and it has come here after a makeover at Affalterbach. The E63 S AMG, based on the standard-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz E-Class, comes with a price tag that begins at Rs 1.5 crore ex-showroom, Delhi. It is offered in one trim that is fully loaded not only with features, but loads of performance.
What is good about?
Almost everything. The 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 pumps out 605bhp of power, the highest in an E-AMG ever. And you get all-wheel drive to harness as much as the road surface might allow you to.
The interior is opulent. The upholstery is done up in premium nappa leather with the lightweight carbon fibre inlays and dashes of brushed aluminium highlight the all-black cabin. The E63 AMG is loaded to its gills with features and bells and whistles.
What is bad about it?
Fuel economy? Because in spite of its active cylinder management, the E63 S AMG might not return more than 10kmpl in real-world scenarios. And if you gas it, it will go below 5kmpl. But fuel economy is not really on the list of concerns for anybody looking to buy the E63 S.
Also, it is a sleeper – supercar performance in an everyday-car-shell. So it might not stand out right away amidst the swarm of luxury cars, but it certainly have people wondering why it is sounding so great.
The best Variant to buy
Well, there is only one variant. So, no confusion here. Also, you can customise your AMG in any of the Excellence centres which, of course, will take the price tag north.
Quick facts
This is the first time an E-Class gets the 4Matic all-wheel drive in India. But you also have the Drift mode to relive the classic rear-wheel drive days of the E63 AMG. And that can be accessed when you put the car in Race mode which switches off many of the driver aids (not all) leaving you at the mercy of your judgement and an avalanche of horsepower.
