Cross vehicles seem to be the flavour of this car buying season and now Tata has jumped on this bandwagon with the Tiago NRG. It’s only available in top spec petrol and diesel model and is a direct competitor to the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X.
What’s good about it?
It might be slightly high priced but essentially for the kind of money you are paying, you get SUV styling at hatchback money. There’s also the fact that you get a feature heavy car for this kind of money. This list includes all four power windows, power mirrors, touchscreen infotainment system, 14-inch alloy wheels and a funky looking interior package that’s a bit overdone on the orange theme.
What’s not so good?
The petrol is priced at Rs 5.49 lakhs and the diesel has been priced at Rs 6.31 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). These are introductory prices and this means it will go up even further in a few months. Also there’s the fact that Tata has not introduced an AMT model for this cross hatchback. The automaker has, however, said that the decision to not introduce a two-pedal setup for the Tiago NRG was due to customer preferences and has hinted that if there’s demand, the NRG will get the AMT.
