The Mercedes-Benz S-Class portfolio has been expanded in India to include a new model and this time around it’s the S63 AMG coupe. It sits on top of the performance S-Class food chain and can be yours for a ‘princely’ sum of just Rs 2.5 crores (All-India ex-showroom). It embodies the latest design that was showcased with the S-Class facelift and here are the highs and lows of why you should buy one.
What’s good about it?
Well… behind that Panamerica grille, the massive AMG wheels and the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, it’s still an S-Class and this means you get all extra, extra (extra) luxury trappings associated with the range. Everything is elegantly laid out, finished in fancy wood, metal, leather and plastic and feels like they have come straight out of the catalogue of a luxury home in any of the world’s top metro cites.
Then there is the motivation. The V8 pushes out 612bhp and a tyre melting 900Nm of torque. This monster is mated to a nine-speed DCT and powers the rear wheels. What’s the benefit of all this power? You hit 100kmph in 3.5 seconds and then really quickly will hit the electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
What’s not so good?
There’s a lot of options for other cars and SUVs in this price range. This might look really good and go like it is on fire but you have more practical options as well as more powerful options from across the table in this price range. But then again, the S63 AMG Coupe is a car you buy with your heart rather than to commute to work every day. Call it, if you will, the weekend companion for your four-door S-Class.
