Mahindra’s back in the premium SUV game and this time around, it is with the Alturas G4 which is priced at 26.95 lakhs for the 2WD AT and 29.95 lakhs for 4WD AT variant (introductory ex-showroom). In essence, it is the latest generation Ssangyong Rexton G4, but it will be sold in India with the Mahindra badging and in a separate premium space in the existing Mahindra showrooms. There’s two variants, diesel power, five colours and most importantly, we have already driven the car and you can read about that here.
What’s good about it?
The Mahindra Alturas G4 is big, well-appointed and has the necessary presence to notch its place in the world of premium ladder-on-frame SUVs. We’ve also looked at the Alturas against its major competitors, both in terms of performance and features and in both fights, it has managed to come out looking quite good.
What’s not so good?
We drove the car and while there are many positives, we did find that the ride quality is bumpy and that the third row is, for want of a better term, insufficient. The handling is not all that great. But then again, you have consider that this is a 2.2-tonne SUV with a high centre of gravity and a ladder-on-frame chassis and these are characteristics normally associated with such kind of vehicles.
