BMW has launched their all-new 5 Series at an introductory price of Rs 49.50 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Considering the competition, BMW has priced the all-new 5 Series really aggressively, almost Rs 3 lakhs cheaper than its earlier model, in spite of it being an entirely new platform. The new pricing makes sure that the 5 Series undercuts its rivals by a whole country mile and you can find that in our competition check. The BMW 520d Sport Line is priced at Rs 49.5 lakhs while the 530i Sport Line is priced at Rs 49.9 lakhs. The 520d Luxury line comes in at Rs 53.6 lakhs and if you are looking for SUVs, you have a whole bunch of mid-size luxury SUVs on offer. You could start with the Land Rover Discovery Sport which starts at just over Rs 45 lakhs or the Range Rover Evoque if you want to make a style statement.
Amongst the Germans, there’s the Audi Q5, the Mercedes GLC and BMW’s own X3 in contention. While the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5 prices begin at under Rs 50 lakhs, the Mercedes GLC, like always, asks for over Rs 55 lakhs. You will surely get the brawn of the SUV here but you will also miss out on the luxuries of a sedan and BMW’s dynamic handling.
The BMW 530d comes with a six-cylinder 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine and higher performance and obviously a steeper price tag of Rs 61.3 lakh. If you spend a few lakh rupees more, you can avail the Mercedes-Benz GLE 250d with the puny four cylinder turbo-diesel. The full-size SUVs are almost Rs 10 lakh more expensive than the top-spec 5er. In case you are thinking out of the box, there is the Audi A3 Cabriolet priced at just a couple of lakh rupees cheaper than the entry-level all-new 5 Series.
