Skoda has finally launched the all-new Kodiaq SUV in India for the price of Rs 34.49 lakhs (ex-showroom all-India). The Kodiaq is the first seven-seater offering from Skoda in the country and it aims at the growing SUV market. Skoda introduced the Kodiaq in a single fully-loaded style variant. Here are a few other cars you can look at for the price of this Czech SUV.
First up, we have the large, seven-seater full-size SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour, and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The Ford Endeavour with its top-spec 3.2-litre automatic 4x4 variant is the most powerful of the three big boys. Moreover, it is a whole five lakhs cheaper than the Kodiaq. The Fortuner tops out at a similar price while the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is even cheaper. While the former is an undisputed leader in the segment, the latter is bit outdated now. Then there’s the new Volkswagen Tiguan Highline TDI at Rs 30.46 lakhs, but is only a five-seater soft-roader.
At the price of the Kodiaq, there are more SUVs and crossovers as well. One can consider looking at the one from the German trio – BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and the Audi Q3. All the three cars are available with petrol and diesel engine options with the all-wheel-drive powertrain. But these soft-roaders can carry five people only. At the exact same price of the Kodiaq, you also get a Mini crossover, the Countryman. All these cars carry a premium brand name and serve as a style statement if you don’t want to ferry around seven people likein the Kodiaq.
And if you don’t want an SUV altogether, there are D-Segment sedans that you can spend your money on. The top-of-the-line Skoda Superb L&K TDI AT retails at Rs 31.42 lakhs, while the standard Toyota Camry comes for even less. However, the Camry hybrid only costs two lakhs more than the Kodiaq, which is a positive, in case you are a tree-hugger. Mercedes-Benz 200 CDI Sport is a good alternative if you want a stylish four-door coupe compared to which Audi A3 35 TDI Technology seems understated. Both of them are available at the exact Kodiaq pricing.
The other German-trio of executive sedans – BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class – start at a couple of lakhs more than the Skoda’s seven-seater. Addfive lakhs to the Kodiaq pricing and the Land Rover Discovery Sport Pure serves as a capable off-roading SUV.
However, the Kodiaq comes to the Indian market as a quality, all-round SUV. It is understated and will easily carry out all the tasks you demand from it. The Kodiaq is spacious, practical and feature-loaded as well.
