The WagonR Stingray was unveiled in Japan nearly a year ago and word has been in the air thanks to rumours about a possible India launch. Adding to the credibility of the news, the car was spotted during a photo shoot in India which has been followed up now by clearer images of the demo car.
As expected, the car resembles the standard Maruti Suzuki WagonR in more ways than one, from the tall boy design styling to the mechanical underpinnings. But the Stingray does manage to distinguish itself with the bold styling changes to the front and the rear.
The facia gets a sleek headlamp cluster than house projector headlamps, along with slim chrome grille. The bumper has been chiselled to fit the broadened air duct and the new fog lamp unit. The rear changes include slimmer tail lights, a rear lip spoiler and a broad chrome stip with ‘Stingray’ engraved on it.
As mentioned before, the Stingray will be powered by the 1.0-litre K10 series petrol engine that makes a humble 68PS power and 90Nm torque. The model caught on camera is based on the VXi Airbag variant of the standard model and it likely to be available only in that option.
The Stingray is likely to be priced about Rs 50,000 higher than the standard VXi variant, which might be a tad high considering the changes are superficial and mainly confined to the exterior of the car.
