Volkswagen has unveiled a super powerful Golf called the R400 at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. Based on the already powerful Golf R it has been a sporty exterior 19-inch wheels and highly tuned four-pot motor that gives it the unique name.
The Golf R 400 is by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine from the Golf R but it has now been tuned to produce 400bhp and 450Nm of torque as compared to the standard car’s 300bhp and 370Nm. Power is sent to all four-wheels via a six-speed DSG and the German automaker’s 4MOTION four-wheel drive system. Such a combination allows the Golf R400 to sprint from 0-100kmph in 2.9 seconds and then go on to hit an electronically limited top speed of 280kmph.
The external embellishments include 19-inch wheels, flared wheel arches and a carbon fibre splitter. The rear also gets centrally-positioned exhausts and, contrast coloured callipers and grille. Inside, Audi has fitted the Golf R400 with motor spec seats that have been covered in Alacantra and carbon fibre seats with contrast stitching, built-in head restraints and the usual Golf luxuries that we find in the premium hatchback.
VW has also unveiled the Golf Edition Concept at Beijing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the premium hatchback. It looks quite normal apart from the Magic Morning exterior package which gives off a gold shimmer depending on the angle of vision. Other external embellishments include mirror caps and specially designed 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, VW has fitted the Edition Concept with two-tone leather seats with diamond pattern stitching, wood trim, piano black accents and illuminated door sill plates.
