If you are a World Rally Championship (WRC) fan, you would know that last season was dominated by two drivers Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Mati Latvala driving a Polo R WRC. The car that finished on top of the WRC rankings last season is now present at the ongoing Auto Expo.
The rally car looks like a Polo on steroids with flared wheel arches, a large rear wing, abig front air-dam and a small front spoiler placed on the top. The car has unique livery with ‘R’ written all over except the top.
It’s surprising that 315 horses and 425Nm of twisting force that moves the car, comes from a humble four-cylinder 1.6-litre engine with a turbocharger and an intercooler. The power is divided to all four wheels via a sequential six-speed racing gearbox with LSD (limited slip differential). The suspension and clutch are designed by ZF.
The Polo R WRC can accelerate its way from a standstill to 100 kmph in 3.9 seconds and can achieve 200kmph (depending on gear ratios).
In its debut season the car owned the WRC season by a good margin. The drivers Sebastian Ogier and Jari-Mati-Latvala finished first and second, ensuring VW gets the best manufacturers title.
The Polo R WRC can be seen at VW’s pavilion at the Auto Expo. WRC fans don’t miss it!
