VW has confirmed a top-of-the-line Polo which will be put to production. It will be the most powerful road-going Polo ever.
The Polo with the R nomenclature might get 252 ponies under its hood and an all-wheel-drive system. The horsepower generation duty may be done by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor from the Golf. This amount of power in a relatively light chassis and all four wheels clawing its way through the tarmac could result in stellar performance figures. The Polo R will attain an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph (155mph), which would be impressive to say the least, for a car that was made with an intention to be sold to the masses.
The Polo R might be available, unlike the 2013 Polo WRC limited edition (2,500 units). The car might be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and may be available for sale later this year.
However, it is unlikely that the Polo R would ever make it to India, as it would be desirable but unaffordable for many. In our country such products seldom sell, and end up doing no benefit to the companies bringing them. But, we the enthusiasts wish VW does the impossible and adds a Polo R to its product line-up here.
