VW’s Passat has been on sale in India since November, but VW aims to become the Indian people’s car maker as well, with plans to produce the Up! by 2010-11 with a sticker price of Rs 3 lakh.
Complementing the Up! will be the Polo hatchback. The two models will be built alongside each other in VW’s new plant in Chakan, near Pune. The company will also launch the ultra-luxury Phaeton saloon and the C-segment Jetta sedan in the next few years.
