Volvo India has finally unveiled the new XC90 for the Indian market at an event in Mumbai today. It is available in two variants, Momentum and Inscription, priced at Rs 64.9 lakh and Rs 77.9 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai) respectively. The car goes up against the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GL, BMW X5 and Land Rover Discovery in our country.
Looking at the exterior, we can clearly differentiate the changes on this new model from the earlier version. The huge SUV measures 4,950mm in length, 1,923mm in width and 1,776mm in height. Apart from its presence, the SUV has been applauded for its style, technological features and engine line-up. The car will be made available in two variants - Momentum and Inscription.
The latest addition to the XC90’s cabin is the 12.3-inch screen that replaces the instrument cluster. The other features include a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats and Nappa leather interior with wooden trim. High-end Bowers & Wilkins 19-speaker system and air-suspension will be seen in the top-of-the-line trim. The features and equipment in the cabin include a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function, powered foldable third-row backrests, electrically operated tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, LED headlamps, Park Assist and Hill Descent Control.
The Volvo XC90 comes powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel mill that produces 228bhp of power and 470Nm of torque. This mill comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volvo India might introduce the T8 plug-in hybrid as a petrol variant at a later stage.
The new XC90 is the first car to be based on the Volvo SPA platform and is the second-generation of the SUV that was unveiled globally last year. Volvo India has high hopes from the car that will help them compete against more established players like the Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Land Rover in India. The XC90 has created a huge excitement globally since its launch in August last year. In the international markets, the carmaker has received in excess of 24,000 pre-orders for the new SUV and the company expects the car to do well in the Indian market as well. At present, the manufacturer will sell the car via the CBU route and deliveries will begin in September this year.
