Volvo’s top-of-the-line XC90 T8 Hybrid has charged its way on to Indian shores ahead of its official launch later this year. This will be the first petrol offering in the XC90 range and will come here via the CBU route.
In terms of design, there is very little to separate the cars that are currently on sale from this T8 hybrid apart from some badging at the rear and the electric motor charging point in the front.
The hybrid in the name comes from the way Volvo has setup this SUV. Firstly, there are two power trains working together. The front wheels are powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol motor and an electric motor. Powering the rear wheels is another electric motor which when all put together provides AWD capability as well 420bhp and a whopping 640Nm of torque. The batteries for the electric motors can be recharged on the go as well as through a wall unit which takes about 2.5 hours for a full charge. The pure electric range is around 30km.
It is likely to be offered in the Momentum and Inscription variants and will be priced in the range of Rs 87 lakh to Rs 92 lakh after the government discount for hybrid vehicles.
