Volvos have always been trusted for their safety, durability and reliability. And now after almost two decades, when the entire range is undergoing a makeover, the cars have become instant hits thanks to their modern styling and futuristic looks. And this has helped the Swedish car maker ring in the money which in turn has opened new avenues.
SUVs are the most popular segment and by the looks of it, the trend will continue for a long time and Volvo makes sure it gets a share of the ever-growing pie. After the XC90, the XC60 and the XC40, Volvo is mulling if it should build a new SUV, a coupe-SUV in fact. This one will sit between the XC40 and the XC60 competing with the likes of the BMW X4 or the Mercedes GLC-Coupe.
But, for now, Volvo’s prime focus is on the electrification of their entire range which is still yet to be revamped entirely. Volvo has set a deadline of 2019 for electrification and hence, work on the new coupe-SUV will start latest by 2020. But with the learnings and experience from the new architecture setting in by then, we can expect the Volvo XC50 to get off the drawing table and on to the test benches within a year.
