- Contest was decided between six finalists
- The XC40 won by a hairs whisker from the Jaguar E-Pace
The Volvo XC40 took home the prestigeous Women's World Car of the Year 2018 award. What made it a bigger deal was the line-up of well established competition that included the Porsche Cayenne, Jaguar E-Pace and I-Pace, BMW X2 and the Peugeot 508.
The process to pick the winner took a whole month and included a new voting system. When the final results were out, the XC40 took victory by a hairs breath just beating the Jaguar E-Pace. The XC40 has been winning rave reviews all over and has also bagged the 2018 European Car of the Year at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The all-women jury for the WWCOTY included 34 respected motoring scribes from 27 different countries. This was the ninth edition of the WWCOTY with the first happening back in 2009. By December 2018, the judging panel in WWCOTY will be increased to 36 different countries from 28 nations and more being added throughout next year.
The jury also introduced a new award this year, 'Woman of Worth' which went to Fiona Pargeter. She handles the marketing communications, experiential marketing and customer insight at Jaguar Land Rover.
