Volvo has announced that the V40 hatchback will be launched in India tomorrow. The V40 is the standard hatchback version of the V40 Cross Country crossover, which has been on sale in India for quite some time now.
Aesthetically, the V40 hatchback gets a clean and flowing design, borrowed from the likes of C30 coupe and classic Volvo P1800ES. It looks very similar to the V40 Cross Country, minus all the rugged elements like the bash plates and body claddings. The V40 will carry over the crossover’s engine line-up, which is made up of a four-pot 1.6-litre T4 petrol engine and a five-pot 2.0-litre diesel D3 engine. While the V40 Cross Country diesel was introduced here in 2013, its petrol variant made its way into India less than two months ago. And though the V40 hatchback will be available with both diesel and petrol engines, it is not yet clear whether all the variants will be launched here at the same time.
The Volvo V40 will compete with other premium hatchbacks like the BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz B-Class as well as the Audi A3 sedan. We can expect it to be priced in the Rs 25 lakh to Rs 28 lakh price bracket.
