Volvo India will launch the V40 Cross Country for the Indian market on June 14. The car was unveiled during the 2012 Paris Motor Show and is the third variant of the V40 hatchback. It is a more beefed up version of the standard car and features mainly cosmetic changes on the outside.
Changes to this V40 Cross Country over the standard model include contrast coloured bumpers, silver roof rails, special 19-inch alloy-wheels and a special grille. The Swedish automaker has fitted the Cross Country with a host of features like all-wheel-drive and hill descent control to enhance its off-road capability. The car also gets the same safety features that have earned its standard sibling a five-star Euro-NCAP rating.
Under the hood, The European spec V40 Cross Country has four diesel engine options in the range of 1.6-litres to 2.5-litres with varying outputs. However, for the Indian market we expect that they will launch only the 1.6-litre and the 2.0-litre engines.
The V40 Cross Country will compete with the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the Mini Cooper Countryman. We expect that Volvo will price it in the range of Rs 24 to Rs 28 Lakh (ex-showroom).
