Volvo has officially confirmed the unveiling of their new 2016 Volvo V90 car on February 18. Volvo has brought back the V90 name after 20 years of it being first used for the Volvo 960 Estate in select markets globally. The new V90 was first unveiled as the Concept Estate two years ago at the Geneva Motor Show.
The V90 styling almost resembles the stunning concept and was revealed last year through the leaked images of its scale model. The V90 gets Thor’s hammer inspired headlamps from the XC90 with the signature front grille. The side profile is boxy like a typical estate. The LED tail lamps look like they have come straight from the concept and look quite nice.
Under the hood, you will have the 2.0-litre Drive-E petrol and diesel inline four engines developing 180bhp to 400bhp of power. The higher variants may also get a four-wheel-drive option with the standard eight-speed automatic gearbox that would otherwise power only the front wheels. Globally, the V90 competes with the Audi A6 Avant, the BMW 5 Series Touring and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon.
Volvo has a history of building the safest cars and along with reliable estates and the flagship V90 estate will certainly inherit it all. In India though, Volvo has not been able to establish itself as a popular brand with the Germans going strong in the luxury car market. With the XC90, Volvo will look to get recognition which may probably help us get the V90 estate soon.
