Volvo’s brand new flagship sedan, the S90 is here and it looks fabulous. It is one of those classic designs that is modern yet timeless. And with it, Volvo brings in latest technology in terms of build, engines and of course, safety. The car has been launched at a mouth-watering price tag of Rs 53.5 lakh ex-showroom Mumbai (without octroi).
It gets the new Volvo face with the upright grille and the Thor’s hammer headlamps. The air dam gets faux air vents with chrome accents and the fog lamps lurking beneath them.
The profile makes the almost five metres of length evident. The prominent shoulder line, slightly flared wheel arches and the sloping roofline make the profile sleek.
This has to be one of the prettiest tail designs to be seen on cars in recent times. The C-shape LED tail lamps complement the boot lid creases and twin exhausts add a touch of sportiness.
The white interiors look rich especially with the linear walnut wood trim and the large 9-inch touchscreen display that controls almost everything in the car.
It is a Volvo and safety gets top priority. Along with a host of airbags and design safety, you also have a special display for seatbelt warning.
The S90 is the longest in its class and the cabin space is unmatched. There is enough room for two six-footers in each row and also three passengers in the back thanks to its width.
It gets ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the back. The rear seat base can be bolstered up for the child seat to provide additional support.
In terms of features, it gets a four-zone climate control with a touch panel for the rear passengers. It also gets a panoramic sunroof. It also gets ventilated front seats.
The engine is the D4 2.0-litre diesel that develops 187bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. It comes mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox driving the rear wheels.
The Volvo S90 spices things up for the Swedish car maker in India. With more launches to come before the end of 2016, Indian car buyers will certainly have safer options to choose from.
