After much waiting and growing anticipation, Volvo has finally announced its plans to launch the S60 Polestar in India on April 14. Early in the last quarter of 2016, the automaker had imported a single unit in India for certification purpose. Interestingly, the upcoming vehicle will be the first Polestar-edition to be launched in the country. The performance focused Polestar-badged vehicle also marks Volvo’s entry into the power segment and compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW in India.
Under the hood, the S60 Polestar edition will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine that generates a massive 367bhp of power and 470Nm of torque. The powerful engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive system as standard. The electronic speed limiter restricts the top speed to 250kph and the car is quite capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in 4.7 seconds.
In terms of safety, the S60 will get Active Dual Xenon headlights with headlight washers, adaptive cruise control, blind spot information system, collision warning system with full auto brake and a pedestrian and cyclist detection system. In terms of design, the vehicle sports strong body lines without being too aggressive at the same time. The S60 Polestar gets well designed front splitters and a rear spoiler and diffusor for high-speed stability. The vehicle sits on massive 20-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires which rounds off its sporty appeal
Like the rest from the company’s line, the new Volvo S60 Polestar will be brought into the country via the CBU route. More details about the vehicle will be known after its official launch. The S60 Polestar will be an entry-level performance car from Volvo to begin with and it might also be an indication for bigger things in future as well.
