As we eagerly wait for the launch of Volvo S60 Polestar on April 14, we bring the first preview of the upcoming vehicle. The newbie from Volvo will compete strongly against the likes of Mercedes-Benz CLA 43 AMG in India. Introducing the S60 Polestar in the country can also be seen as an indication from Volvo which may introduce more performance focused cars in India.
Style
Volvo cars have always stood out from the crowd and the upcoming V60 Polestar is no less. The vehicle gets strong muscular lines on the hood that flows neatly onto the traditional grille and Active Xenon headlamps with headlight washers. The sides are flanked by large 20-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that instantly tell you that there’s a S60 Polestar driving by. Though the international market gets an array of colour options, we shall only get the iconic cyan racing blue shade initially. The vehicle sports well designed front splitters and a rear spoiler and diffusor for high-speed stability. The rear section flaunts the traditional C-shaped LED taillights with a Polestar badge on the boot.
Interior
Volvo S60 Polestar gets perforated leather upholstery and the front and rear seats have been ergonomically sculpted, firm, with supporting side cushions and luxurious padding. The vehicle gets a power driver seat with memory function that adjusts the seat and door mirrors every time you get inside the vehicle, while the front as well as rear-seats get the heating function. Electronic climate control has been offered as standard along with high-resolution digital driver display with easy instrument layout and interface. The adaptive driver display can be switched between three modes - Elegance, Eco and Performance. As for safety, it offers a ton of them like adaptive cruise control, blind spot information system, collision warning system with full auto brake and pedestrian and cyclist detection system and lot more.
Engine
Under the hood, the Volvo S60 Polestar is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine that puts out a massive 367bhp of power and 470Nm of torque. The powerful engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive system as a standard offering. The electronic speed limiter restricts the top speed to 250kph and the car is quite capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in 4.7 seconds. Within city limits, the vehicle claims to clocka fuel efficiency figure of 8.5kmpl, while on highways it claims to give 11.5kmpl.
Competition
The upcoming Volvo S60 Polestar will compete against the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG. The latter gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates 355bhp of power. The CLA 45 AMG also gets 4MATIC all-wheel drive system that comes mated to AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sport transmission with E-SELECT lever and Race Start function. However, the CLA 45 AMG has smaller wheels -18-inch to be precise - as compared to the upcoming S60 Polestar from Volvo. On the pricing aspect, we expect to see the S60 Polestar to be priced between Rs 60 lakh – Rs 65 lakh, while the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG is priced at Rs 71.94 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). Post launch, the new Volvo S60 Polestar will very likely find many takers in the country.
