Volvo is currently busy working on a replacement model for its ageing S80 luxury sedan. Called the S90, this new flagship offering has already been spotted testing and now Volvo has officially teased it. In fact, the S90 will make its global debut in January next year at the Detroit Motor Show.
Influenced by the Concept Coupe, the S90 gets the traditional Volvo grille and headlamps shaped like Thor's hammer. At the back, Volvo has fitted wrap-around tail lamps but has kept the design relatively chrome free which gives the car a sporty appeal.
The new S90 will be offered with Volvo’s all-new range of four-cylinder Drive-E engines. Paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard, the powertrain will include a 2-litre T6 turbo and supercharged petrol unit with 320bhp, a 2-litre D5 turbo-diesel unit with 225bhp and a petrol-hybrid model with up to 400bhp on offer.
The new S90 will arrive in January 2016 at the Detroit Motor Show and is expected to go on sale globally by mid-2016. Since Volvo India sells its cars via CBU route, the brand should be able to sell the new S90 in India within a few months of its global launch.
