Volvo has launched the V40 Cross Country premium hatchback in India for Rs 28.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The V40 Cross Country was unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and the third variant derived from the V40 hatchback. For the Indian market Volvo has launched the V40 in a single diesel engined variant and it will be brought here via the CBU (completely built up unit) route.
The Cross Country is a toughened up version of the V40 hatchback with 40mm additional ground clearance. The looks of the car are also altered a bit to make it look a bit more rugged. The crossover gets bigger alloy-wheels with chunky tyres, body claddings, roof rails, skid plate and blackened rear view mirrors.
It is powered by a 2.0-litre-inline five turbo diesel engine that produces 150bhp and 360Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via the Swedish automaker’s six-speed ‘Powershift’ automatic gearbox. The car has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 16.81kmpl.
Volvo has equipped the V40 Cross Country with safety features like pedestrian detection, auto braking and city safety which have earned its standard sibling a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The V40 Cross Country is equipped with AWD and hill descent control for decent off-roading capabilities. In terms of safety, the V40 has also been given features like front, curtain and knee airbags, ABS+EBD, traction control, ESP and City Safety Braking.
Other features across all variants includes panoramic sunroof, park assist, seven piece ambient lighting for the interiors, start/stop technology, active cornering lamps, reverse camera attached to a 7-inch display, DVD and MP3 compatible music system
The V40 Cross Country is Volvo's first entry level car which will face up against the BMW X1 and the soon to be launched Mercedces-Benz B-Class Diesel.
