Volvo Car India has introduced the Road Traffic Information (RTI) system on the S80 and XC90. The navigation system facilitates travel to predetermined destinations and through unfamiliar traffic environments, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.
Available at an additional cost of Rs 1.5 lakh, the memory card-based system is fully integrated into Volvo cars and can be controlled from the steering wheel. The 6.5 inch LCD display is recessed into the upper face of the instrument panel, from where it pops up at the touch of a button. The required information is stored on a hard disk in the car. The car then communicates with a satellite system to guide the driver to the defined destination. A female voice also provides driving instructions.
A real-time demo mode helps familiarise you with the navigation system through a simulated trip when the car is stationary. Street addresses aside, it is also possible to choose from a long list of tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants and Volvo Car dealers. The system currently has eleven Indian city maps uploaded and these maps will be updated bi-annually. The next upgrade will have thirty-five more city maps and is due in September 2008.
