Two years after launching the V40 Cross Country in India, Volvo has launched the less rugged looking and more city-oriented V40 premium hatchback. Available only with a diesel engine for now, the V40 is now on sale with prices starting at Rs 24.75 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Kinetic model. The V40 R-Design, meanwhile, costs Rs 27.7 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
The V40 looks similar to the V40 Crossover albeit without the scuff plates and the plastic cladding. The car retains its wide shoulder lines and presents a rather dynamic looking profile. It comes standard with a fixed panorama glass to improve cabin ambience.
Inside, the cabin features Volvo’s digital instrument cluster that displays three three graphic themes: Elegance, Eco and Performance. Being a Volvo, the V40 comes loaded with safety features including park assist, eight airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control and lots more. The car also features a pedestrian airbag which is a world first.
The V40 shares its 2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel with the Cross Country model. Here, the engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with class-leading 150bhp of power and 350Nm torque.
Being a premium hatchback, the new V40 competes with the BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes A-Class in the entry-level luxury car segment.
