Volvo has now officially teased the upcoming XC40 crossover. Volvo’s first ever entry level premium crossover promises a wide array of exterior and interior combinations to let the customer personalise the crossover according to individual taste.
The all-new XC40 will be positioned below the XC60 when it is revealed, thus completing the Volvo’s SUV portfolio. With the individuality options, the customers will be able to choose from a wide variety of exterior colours. There will be exotic material with new textures and colours available for the cabin as well, announced the Swedish carmaker.
The premium crossover will make use of the broad spectrum of colour combinations ranging from solid, monochromatic or dual composition in vivid colours on the exterior. The interior, on the other hand, will get new colour choices which include warm Lava Orange carpet, an Oxide Red upholstery and a range of new and distinctive trims and materials with designs inspired by urban architecture and cartography. It will also get natural, felt-based carpets, headliners and door inserts, says Volvo.
Based on the new CMA platform, the XC40 will sport a downsized XC60 appearance. But with the XC40, Volvo ‘enters into new areas’ says the Chinese-owned carmaker, The XC40 will be the most expressive model in Volvo’s line-up reflecting the unique personality of the owners.
Being the entry-level SUV, Volvo is expecting the XC40 to be a cashcow boosting their sales. Powering the XC40 will be a series of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, along with a T5 twin engine setup that uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
Volvo is expected to launch the XC40 by the last quarter of 2017 or early next year. Upon launch, it will enter into a segment dominated by the likes of BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the Mercedes GLA. Stay tuned for more information in the months to come.
