Volvo developing all-new XC60; Prototype spied

The Volvo XC60 has been in the market for eight years. It’s a remarkable feat considering how little it’s been upgraded over the years. Now though Volvo is working diligently on a new generation of the crossover. 

A prototype for the next-gen XC60 was recently spotted in its home territory, northern Sweden. Despite the heavy body armour, bits of the headlights and the vertical taillights can be clearly seen. The overall silhouette is similar to that of the new XC90. 

The interior design will follow the minimalistic and classy lines of the XC90 and the S90. The upright centre display will feature in the new XC60 as well. Being a Volvo, the new XC60 is likely to become one of the safest cars in its segment thanks to new active safety features including the acclaimed IntelliSafe. The new XC60 is expected to drive itself in city traffic or up to certain speeds. 

The new XC60 will be based on the same SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform as the new XC90 and the S90. The engine line-up, as a result, will consist of familiar turbocharged three and four-cylinder engines exclusively. 

The new Volvo XC60 will take on the BMW X3 and the recently unveiled latest-gen Audi Q5.
