Ahead of any new car launch, automakers have to maintain a balance between strong sales and optimum production, failing in either can be upsetting for the brand. So after gauging the market response for the new XC90, Volvo has decided to boost the production capacity so as to meet the market demand.
The Swedish automaker reportedly will add 1,300 jobs and boost production at its manufacturing facility in Sweden in the first quarter. All of these efforts are being carried out to meet rising demand for the flagship XC90 SUV and a few other new models.
Volvo is looking to add a third working shift in Sweden, which currently has an annual capacity of three lakh units. The model range manufactured at the facility includes the S60, S80, V60, V70, XC70 and the new XC90. The latter has proved to be a massive success for Volvo, with 1,927 units of the First Edition getting sold out in just 47 hours. The regular XC90, meanwhile, has generated quite a bit of interest as well.
Looking for a bigger share of the high-end luxury market, Volvo is hard at work with new car launches and upgraded production facilities. The brand aims to become a formidable rival to Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW in the long run.
