Spies have recently caught the Polo-based B-segment SUV testing in Germany. The test mule shows off the lines of Volkswagen's upcoming SUV.
Despite the car's extensive camouflage, we can guess some of the salient details of the car's styling. For starters, the SUV is expected to adopt the T-Cross Breeze concept's design language. This concept was shown at the Geneva Motor Show. This heavily disguised vehicle in pictures makes it difficult to display the increase in proportions of the car. But a closer look at the larger overhangs and roof rails hint at the carmakers intention of coming up with a bigger model. Reports already suggest that the SUV will be based on the next generation Polo’s MQB architecture.
This model will benefit from the new engine options from the Polo range. These are expected to be the revised versions of the brand’s 1.0-litre, three-cylinder motor, as well as a range of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units. It will also get a choice of manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions like the current ones.
This new Volkswagen SUV model is likely to be launched in various markets across the globe in 2018. The T-Cross Breeze concept had previewed this upcoming compact SUV from VW confirming that it will be based on the latest iteration of their most popular hatchback - the Polo.
At present, the German manufacturer doesn't have any SUV model in their Indian portfolio. Going by the strong growth shown by the SUV segment in our Indian market, the possibility of VW launching this new SUV for the Indian market cannot be ruled out.
