Volkswagen plans to bring about a transformation in their product range with the addition of new cars. This will be accompanied by refreshing their current portfolio as well. So here is a list of what all Volkswagen plans to add to its lineup in India.
Volkswagen's compact sedan
Volkswagen's yet to be named compact sedan will make its global debut at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016. This will be the German carmaker's first entry-level sedan to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent, which are the biggest players in this sub-four metre car segment. The sub-compact sedan will be underpinned by the same platform as that of the Polo. It is expected to borrow design cues and engine options from the hatchback. The entry of VW's compact sedan in the Indian market will be the brand's logical step forward not just to bring a change in its product portfolio, but hopefully also help in increasing their market share eventually.
VW Tiguan
The new Volkswagen Tiguan that was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015 will also be exhibited at the Expo in India. The premium crossover is inspired from the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE and based on VW's MQB platform that also underpins the VW Golf, Audi A3 and the Audi TT. Internationally, the SUV is available with a wide range of petrol and TDI diesel engine options. The company will bring the vehicle with 4Motion all-wheel drive layout at the event next month.
New Passat GTE
VW is bringing the Passat GTE plug-in hybrid at the biennial event. This sedan is powered by a 154bhp 1.4-litre TSI mill that comes mated to an electric motor taking up the power output to above 200bhp. It will act as a preview to the new Passat in India that was recently refreshed with a new horizontally themed design language.
Refreshed product line-up
With the aim of keeping their product range abreast with the consumer's changing demands, VW plans to bring in subtle but significant aesthetic upgrades to their existing portfolio of cars. The Jetta, Vento, Polo, Cross Polo and the 21st Century Beetle will also be showcased at the carmaker's stand at the Expo.
