It has been a while since we have been hearing about Volkswagen’s cheap budget brand, now media reports claim that the German car maker has finalised the budget brand and its first product. The first model from the budget brand might make its appearance as early as 2016.
The concept and design has been put in place as informed by project manager Hans Demant. He also confirmed that all the components will be produced in China. The marque's first model is expected to cost around £5000 and will be sold first in China and later it could be made available in other markets like India, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Baltic region
There were earlier rumours that the project may be canned as it was not feasible because VW wanted the car to be engineered to their high standards and this was taking up a lot of effort and money. However, it seems like the company has found a way out and at last the product might be a reality. This budget car will be part of a new brand and is being called the 13th Brand from the Volkswagen Group.
The induction of a low-cost brand is to capitalise on the emerging markets touted to empower the global car market in the coming decades. These high volume markets will empower VW’s stand as the largest car maker which is currently ranked third. There aren’t many details on what the budget brand will be called and whether the German car maker will go for a cross badging of the new products from this brand. In India, we can expect the car to be launched within a year of its arrival in the Chinese market.
