Here's a thrilling bit of news for performance car enthusiasts in the country, Volkswagen has shipped the Polo GTi from the Pamplona plant in Spain to the Indian market. The two-door performance version is expected to arrive on Indian shores soon and its deliveries are expected to begin by the end of this year. The German automaker will introduce the vehicle in limited numbers and it will compete against the likes of Mini and the Fiat Abarth 595.
To distinguish the Polo GTi from a regular five-door version, the front grille sports a red highlight on the last slat and a GTi badge. The rear also gets a twin pod exhaust tip. As for the interior, the new model will get an all-black treatment unlike the beige and black combination seen on the regular version. Interested customers can expect some additional features along with the regular features that are offered in the Highland variant of the regular five-door Polo in India.
Expected to be seen as a lifestyle brand, Volkswagen believes that the Polo GTi will draw a younger crowd. It is powered by a 1.8-litre four cylinder petrol turbocharged TSi engine which generates a massive 190bhp of power. Along with the automatic DSG, a manual option is also likely to be on offer that will enable the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100kmph in just under seven seconds.
As for the pricing aspect, as the new Polo GTi will be introduced in India via the CBU route, it is likely to be priced around Rs 25 lakh. More details about the new Polo GTi will be known in the coming days.
