Volkswagen has introduced two new engines in the updated Golf line-up and both the engines are turbocharged in-line four cylinder petrol units. With outputs of 150PS and 130PS, both the engines will be mated to a six speed manual transmission and a seven speed DSG gearbox for automatic. Currently the 1.5TSI 150bhp is available and the 130bhp version will be available later in the summer.
The new 1.5TSI EVO engines are equipped with technologies such as Active Cylinder Management and BlueMotion technology. The former one will be equipped in the one with 150PS state of tune and the latter one will be a part of the one with 130PS. Active Cylinder Management deactivates one or more cylinders when it senses that the vehicle does not need all the power. This helps conserve fuel and boost the fuel economy figures. Both the engines have innovative thermal management system with a new map cooling module, polymer-coated crankshaft bearing, APS-coated cylinder liners, fin cooling between the cylinders and a cross-flow cooling system for better mechanical efficiency between the moving parts.
The Volkswagen Golf is a premium hatchback and it also has sporty GTI version on offer. It sits above the Volkswagen Polo which is already sold in India and measures over four metres in length. There are almost no chances that the Golf will come to India anytime soon, but the 1.5-litre TSI may come down when the emission jump from BS-IV to BS-VI happens in 2020.
