Volkswagen is working on localising a Polo- based compact SUV for the Indian market. The process was confirmed by Jurgen Stackmann, member of the VW board of management. This new car will be the production of the T-Cross Breeze that was showcased earlier this year and is likely to arrive here in 2018.
The T-Cross Breeze was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show and is the second in line of SUVs and crossovers that the German automaker plans to introduce across its lineup over the next few years. The concept car was a convertible but we believe that the production version will be a hardtop model and possibly a convertible may arrive a little while later. It debuted with a turbocharged petrol engine producing 110bhp but the production version is likely to share its drivetrains with the Polo hatchback.
The Polo range is quite important for Volkswagen in the Indian context and when launched this model will be the third body style after the hatchback and the Vento sedan. It is expected to be priced higher than the Polo and will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano.
