The TSI engine seems to be going places and is now expected to power a second car in the form of the Volkswagen Vento. A report from Oncars suggests that the German automaker will launch the car in the early part of next month and that it will replace the current Automatic variant of the Polo based sedan.
The Vento GT TSI will be powered by the same engine that sits in the hatchback. It produces 105PS and 175Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. Expect features like ESP and ABS both of which are there on the hatchback to be present in the sedan.
Volkswagen, who is known to produce subtly powerful cars, is not expected to change the exteriors of the car much save for the alloy wheels, GT badges and the blacked out headlights. The interiors will be exactly the same as the Polo GT TSI and the GT TDI right down to the stitching on the seats and feature list.
The Vento has been called one of the better handling cars in its segment, so the addition of this excellent engine should make it a worthy prospect for those wanting to have some fun in the corners but with all the comfort and luxuries of the German automaker.
We expect that VW will price the Vento GT TSI will be priced Rs 1.5 lakh more than the equivalent manual variant. When launched, the Vento GT TSI will compete with the Renault Scala AT, Honda City AT, Hyundai Verna diesel AT and the Ford Fiesta Automatic. Among its rivals, the Ford Fiesta AT is closest in terms of competition as it is the only other dual-clutch gearbox engined car.
