Volkswagen has been on a spree to launch a whole range of special models based on its line-up. It began with Polo getting the GT TSI, Cross Polo and the Polo GT TDI. Now it seems the Vento will spawn a few speciality models, the first of which is expected to be the Vento GT TSI. It is expected to follow the same formula as its hatchback sibling and will even have the same styling cues.
First, the engine; It is the same 1.2-litre TSI petrol unit that produces 105bhp and 175Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox (with a sport mode!). It is likely that engine might replace the 1.6-litre AT unit that currently powers the Vento.
The styling cues and features have been taken from the Polo GT TSI. There is no sign that it is the performance variant save for the GT badges in the front and the back. Standard features include ESP, ABS and Hill Hold function. Sporty alloy wheels are also expected to be a part of the overall package.
It also gets two-din music system, rear AC vents, tilt and telescopic adjustment for the steering, speed sensing auto door locks and rear parking sensors. The windows can be remote controlled and have a pinch guard.
We expect that VW will price the Vento GT TSI will be priced Rs 1.5 lakh more than the equivalent manual variant. When launched, the Vento GT TSI will compete with the Renault Scala AT, Honda City AT, Hyundai Verna diesel AT and the Ford Fiesta Automatic. Among its rivals, the Ford Fiesta AT is closest in terms of competition as it is the only other dual-clutch gearbox engined car.
